The Aspinall Foundation’s mission is to prevent the extinction of endangered animals.  We work globally to protect animals from the threats facing them such as poaching, deforestation and the illegal wildlife trade.  Our overseas project teams work with schools, communities and Governments in Gabon, Congo, Madagascar, South Africa and Java in some of the world’s most fragile environments to develop a balanced and sustainable future for the wildlife and people living side by side.  By working in partnership with our two wild animal parks in Kent we have sent hundreds of captive born endangered animals back to the wild to support and restore native wild populations.

We have a fantastic and rare opportunity for an experienced fundraising professional to join the charity based in Kent on its ambitious growth journey as we scale up for success.

You will be responsible for developing and implementing a robust Individual Giving strategy, which will focus on both acquisition and retention of donors.

The main responsibilities will include:

  • Keep abreast of all developments in Individual Giving and community fundraising legislation and regulatory control.
  • Prepare quarterly forecasts for individual giving income and report monthly on performance against targets.
  • Working with the Sales and Marketing team to produce strong and compelling fundraising materials for a wide range of media.

The successful individual will need to demonstrate:

  • At least 3 years’ experience working in a fundraising role where individual giving has formed a core part of your responsibilities, along with a successful fundraising track record in individual giving and direct marketing.

  • Confident working with internal and external stakeholders
  • Knowledge of animal conservation and knowledge of Salesforce CRM system is desirable
  • Institute of Fundraising qualification or equivalent

Reporting to the Sales, Marketing & Fundraising Director, this role will be based at Port Lympne Hotel & Reserve and will require occasional work at weekends and evenings so flexibility with working hours is essential.

Since 1975, when my father John Aspinall (1926 – 2000) first opened Howletts to the public, we have continued and developed our mission to breed rare and endangered species and to return them to the wild.

The Aspinall Foundation is a world leader in animal husbandry and conservation and has to date returned gorillas, black rhino, Przewalski’s horses, cape buffalo, ocelots, and pythons to protected areas of their ancestral homelands. We also manage two African gorilla rescue and rehabilitation projects situated in approximately one million acres of rainforest in Congo & Gabon, as well as a programme to protect one of the most threatened of all lemur species, the Greater Bamboo Lemur, in Madagascar. The Aspinall Foundation also contributes to several other conservation projects around the world.

  • To halt the extinction of rare and endangered species in the wild.
  • To continue to provide the most natural environment possible for the animals in both parks.
  • To re-introduce these animals back to their wild habitat where this is possible.
  • To increase public understanding and awareness of the threats facing endangered species.
  • To develop sustainable conservation-minded activities which provide economic benefits on a local and national scale.

I hope you will visit the parks in Kent and see for yourself the wonderful work our dedicated team are doing with some of the world’s most endangered animals. Please remember that this work is funded solely through charitable donations and your visit alone is not enough to save these remarkable creatures. Please take a look at the many other ways in which you can help us to continue The Aspinall Foundation’s vital work, before it is too late.
