Trustee Vacancies,

The National Brain Appeal

The National Brain Appeal (TNBA) funds advances in clinical care and research at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN) and the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology (IoN), known collectively as “Queen Square”.

Queen Square is one of the world’s leading centres for the diagnosis, treatment and care of patients with neurological conditions. These include neurodegenerative conditions such as dementia and Parkinson’s Disease, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, brain cancer, spinal cord injuries, stroke and neuromuscular conditions. Alongside treating patients from London and the Home Counties, the hospital is also a national, and international, referral centre for those with the most complex conditions.

The NHNN has over 350 beds, as well as 7 operating theatres which are supported by multidisciplinary teams from 2,400 staff, including 240 consultants. Many of the consultants also work at UCL Queen Square IoN which has a world-class reputation for neuroscience research with a mission to translate neuroscience discoveries into treatments for patients.

Our mission is to support the development of new treatments and cures for the 100s of devastating neurological conditions that affect 1 in 6 people in the UK (current figures stand at 14.7m). The NBA makes a major contribution in funding pioneering research, providing access to the best technology for expert diagnosis and treatment, and for training tomorrow’s clinicians. To date, the charity has raised over £45m for state-of-the-art equipment, major building programmes and life-saving research, which is above and beyond that provided by the NHS. Over the next 20 years, Queen Square aims to deliver ambitious clinical and research strategies that will drive a major improvement in the outcome and quality of life for every individual with a neurological disorder.

Our Board is now looking to appoint two or three trustees with a deep empathy for the mission and values of The National Brain Appeal.

We are looking specifically for candidates with experience in:

-       Digital Fundraising

-       Branding

-       Corporate Fundraising

-       Audit and Finance

The Board meets six times per year, at Queen Square, London, WC1, although during the Covid outbreak, the team continue to meet virtually. The Board includes leading clinicians from Queen Square who work alongside non-clinical Trustees which provides a powerful and creative balance to continue to build on the legacy already achieved over the past forty years.  The Trustees have recently endorsed an exciting strategy to grow the voluntary income of the charity by five times over the next five years.

We are highly committed to widening the diversity of the Board and warmly encourage applications from a broad and deep range of backgrounds and experiences.

How to Apply

If you feel you have the motivation, skills and experience to join our Board, please apply with a full CV and a cover letter, including why you would like to become a TNBA Trustee and the qualities you can bring to charity. You can do this by using the apply section below.
