BOARD AND INVESTMENT COMMITTEE VACANCIES

 In the autumn of 2020, the Dunhill Medical Trust will launch its new five-year plan: “Investing for Impact”.  It was back in the 1980s that our founder’s niece recognised that the shifting demographics would drive a need for investment in a high-quality research base to improve our understanding of the mechanisms of ageing and the delivery of innovation in the health and social care of older people.  Since then, the Trust has been funding some of the best of the UK’s academic and clinical researchers to do just that. As we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, this need will be even greater and the opportunities are immense to make real systemic change.  The Trust plans to play its part in three broad ways:

  • investing in ideas
  • connecting research and practice and
  • fostering flourishing communities.

Board vacancy

Following a recent retirement, we have a vacancy on our Board.  We welcome applications for the position of Trustee from candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas, consistent with the themes of our new plan:

  • Those with relevant specialist experience of planning and design of the built environment.
  • Experience of delivering innovation in financial support for the community and voluntary sectors.
  • Experience in leading systemic change in health and social care services at a local level.
  • Academic leaders in gerontology with experience in co-design of research and working with the community and voluntary sector.

Investment committee vacancy

Reporting to the Board are three committees and up to two vacancies have arisen on our Investment Committee.  Applicants for these positions should be able to demonstrate experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • as a fund manager;
  • developing investment strategies and policies appropriate to charities; (particularly endowed charities), including asset allocation;
  • monitoring and assessing the performance of investment managers;
  • the environmental, social and governance aspects of investment.

With a new Chair and having completed an operational transformation plan, it’s an exciting time to be joining us and we’re looking people with the commitment, vision and expertise to contribute to writing the next chapter in our story.

Applications for are invited from across the UK and Board and committee meetings are held quarterly (the time commitment is around 6-8 days per year). While our office base is in central London, we are currently holding meetings virtually. Although the role is unpaid, reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

How to apply

Applications should be addressed to Susan Kay, Executive Director at susan.kay@dunhillmedical.org.uk and should be in the form of a curriculum vitae with a covering letter of no more than two pages indicating which of the vacancies you are applying for, outlining your interest in the work of the Trust and how you believe you meet the needs of the role (you may access a role descriptions via the sidebar on this page and find out more about the Trust on our website).  We are unable to consider applications without such a covering letter. The Trust recognizes that diversity is essential for excellence and increases the capacity to develop, innovate and grow. We therefore encourage applications from under-represented groups.

For a confidential, informal discussion regarding the role, please contact Susan Kay in the first instance.
