Sixty-One, the Christian charity that runs the Bristol based MentorMe mentoring project for people with criminal convictions is looking for a Project Liaison Officer 4 days a week.

The successful candidate will join a small team that locates suitable mentees from within local prison and community settings, trains volunteers from the churches to be their mentors and then manages and supports the mentor-mentee relationships.

It will involve, managing a mentor/mentee caseload, processing referrals, developing/maintaining relationships and liaising with community referrers such as Probation, through-the-gate support agencies, drug and alcohol services and mental health teams. The role may also involve visits to one or more of the prisons in the South West to build relationships with potential mentees. As such you will need to be comfortable working in a predominantly male environment.

The role also involves delivering 3-4 training courses each year (alongside other team members) to members of local churches, assessing individuals’ suitability for mentoring and processing them as volunteers. As part of the team you will provide ongoing support and supervision to some of our 60+ volunteers, this will involve helping to deliver a number of events each year including additional training sessions, group supervision and Celebration Meals.

You will also be needed to support any events that Sixty-One run, which are mostly focused on equipping the church community to better support ex-offenders.

You will join a small and friendly and committed team (4 staff) based in our central Bristol office, as well as working in prisons and in the community. Excellent people skills, perseverance, problem solving, presentation skills, attention to detail and record keeping are key to this role. The ideal candidate would also have some knowledge and experience/qualifications around substance misuse, although this is not a requirement. You will need access to a car for travel to community based meetings.
