Can your skills and experience help achieve lasting human rights impact?

Have you got considerable current experience of charity finance, audit and tax matters? Amnesty International Charity Limited is looking for applications from skilled, motivated and passionate people to join its board of trustees to replace a trustee whose term will end in mid-2021 and to complement the existing trustee body.

Amnesty International Charity Limited (‘AICL’) is part of the Amnesty International global movement. It is registered both as a company limited by guarantee (company number 2007475) and as a charity (Charity No. 294230) in England and Wales. Its objects are to promote human rights throughout the world. AICL receives the bulk of its income from legacy and other one-off charitable donations and carries out its charitable activities by way of grant funding. Typically, the charity’s activities include research into human rights abuses across the world and raising public awareness.

WHAT’S INVOLVED?

The AICL trustees are responsible for the overall supervision of AICL’s operations. They are appointed for four-year terms and can be re-appointed once. There are currently 3 AICL trustees and they meet at least three times a year, with a face to face meeting at least once a year at the International Secretariat offices in London. The anticipated time commitment is up to 5 days a year.

ABOUT YOU

We are committed to broadening diversity and welcome applications from candidates from all backgrounds and experience although the new trustee will be ideally UK-based and will have the following essential skills and experience:

  • Considerable current experience and understanding of finance, audit and tax matters (preferably in a charity context);
  • good independent judgment;
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills; excellent English language skills,
  • including ability to understand complex legal and financial documents;
  • and commitment to Amnesty International’s vision and mission.

The following are desirable skills/experience:

  • knowledge and experience of working in or with a charity and experience of acting in a previous trustee/board role. In line with best practice on conflicts of interest, successful applicants must not exercise a concurrent staff or governance role at the International Secretariat or at any other Amnesty International entity.
