Forest Peoples Programme (a registered charity) is a human rights organisation working with forest peoples across the globe to secure their rights to their lands and their livelihoods. We work alongside more than 60 partner organisations representing indigenous peoples and forest communities from across the globe. We support forest peoples and indigenous organisations to promote an alternative vision of how forests should be managed, based on respect for the rights, knowledge, cultures and identities of the peoples who know them best.

The board are now looking for 3 new trustees to help guide the charity into the future as we build on the solid foundations we have built over the past 30 years.

Having recently conducted a review of the skills and composition of the current Board, we are looking for new trustees with skills and experience in the following three areas:

  • International NGO finance – Please see additional documentation for the specific role for Chair of the Audit and Finance Committee
  • Communications and fundraising
  • Personal experience of the realities faced by indigenous peoples and local communities

We encourage applicants from people in the Global South. Whilst experience is important to us, it is equally important that new trustees who can share our passion and commitment. If you believe that you have any of the above expertise, then we would be delighted to hear from you. Our new trustees should be able to demonstrate professional skills and have experience at operating at board or a senior level. They will need to be strategic thinkers and have excellent communication skills.

The trustee positions are unremunerated but reasonable out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.

If you are interested in a trustee role with Forest Peoples Programme, please send a copy of your CV and a short covering letter explaining why you think you would make a good trustee for the charity and the experience you would bring.
