£68,741 per annum plus Inner London Weighting (£3,000)

London based (3 days minimum) plus regular UK travel

Carers Trust is a major charity for, with and about carers. We work to improve support, services and recognition for anyone living with the challenges of caring, unpaid, for a family member or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or addiction problems.

We are currently looking for a Director of UK Policy and External Affairs who will work across all four nations of the UK and ensure that Carers Trust is positioned at the leading edge of policy making and strategic influencing in relation to unpaid carers.

Main aims

• Acting as a senior representative who will inform policymaking, develop our positioning and inform public opinion so that it supports our mission, reflecting the quality and ambition of the work that we do.
• Overall responsibility for all non-devolved policy matters and for all devolved matters in England. You will work closely with the teams in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales in order to shape policy and practice.
• As a member of the Senior Leadership Team the Director will oversee a high performing team that lead on our work to shape our external affairs agenda in order that we can be ambitious and effective in our pursuit to Make Carers Count.

The successful candidate will have experience of:

• Experience of working at a senior and national level to influence policy change
• Being an inspiring leader with a collaborative and flexible approach
• Experience of working across a range of complex partnerships and relationships to achieve strategic buy in and commitment.
• A knowledge of policy, best practice and legislation in relation to unpaid carers.
