Our aim is to support our members to live enriched independent lives in the community and this is your chance to make a real difference.  Berkshire Vision provides information and support to visually impaired person’s (VIP’s) of all ages.  We achieve this by offering a wide range of services to VIPs and their families as well as working with health and social care professionals, local employers and community groups to improve their understanding of visual impairment and the needs of those affected by all forms of vision loss.

This is an exciting time to join Berkshire Vision, as we set to deliver and achieve our new and ambitious 5 year strategy.  Our strategy aims to provide a range of comprehensive services which support our members to live enriched, independent and safe lives within their communities.  This is a new and exciting role which has been developed to deliver our volunteering strategic objectives.

The Head of Volunteering is a key member of the charity’s leadership team with responsibility for developing and implementing our volunteering strategy. You will provide leadership and strategic direction to the charities volunteers, supporting the development and integration of a quality volunteering model, which provides our volunteers with an outstanding volunteering experience.

The role also has lead responsibility for developing our volunteer support across the charity, particularly focusing on the safe recruitment, management, development and recognition of our volunteers.  Experience of leading and delivering volunteer service is essential.

The role holder will have experience of working at a senior strategic level within the health, public or charitable (or similar) environment combined with the knowledge and understanding of current issues, policy and priorities within the volunteering sector, is preferred.

This is a diverse and challenging role responsible for the planning, implementation, delivery, day-to-day management and on-going development of the organisations volunteer services and campaigns.

The successful candidate will be an exceptional leader with the vision and ability to inspire, manage and develop volunteers. You will have outstanding communication skills, be able to develop strong and positive relationships, work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, and represent and advocate at the highest levels and with key decision makers.

As this is a Senior Management Team position reporting directly to the Chief Executive, you will also be experienced in working as part of a successful and progressive leadership team and have the ability to build and maintain relationships and trust quickly and effectively.

We are looking for someone with a passion for supporting our members to live enriched lives, and therefore you should be someone who is able to work innovatively and be an advocate for our services. The role has an element of reporting, budget management and administration, the ability to use Microsoft packages is essential.

To apply you must be able to travel within the Thames Valley area, with some driving outside of the area and have a flexible approach to the hours worked.  This role includes some evening and weekend work, approximately 8 occasions per annum.

The successful applicant will require an enhanced DBS disclosure with barred list checks.
