In addition to the 11 country offices worldwide we also work with multiple partner offices focussing on sustainable development programmes and providing humanitarian relief during times of crisis.

Summary of the role:

Based in the UK HQ in London, the Director of Finance will lead the overall financial management of Muslim Aid. This role will be primarily responsible for the delivery of strategic financial and funding management of Muslim Aid’s programmes through the provision of high-quality financial information.

The postholder will provide direct line management and professional support to Muslim Aid H.Q. Finance & IT departments and to the finance staff in the field offices. This role also has dotted line accountability to the Trustee Chair of the Finance and Accounting Committee (FAC).

About the Role:

The post holder will devise and maintain financial systems, procedures and internal controls helping to shape organisational objectives integrating functional requirements.

The main responsibilities of this role will be to:

  1. Manage the finance and IT functions and be responsible for the efficiency, accuracy and integrity of the charity’s financial information and utilisation of financial resources. 
  2. Lead and develop a financial management strategy for H.Q. and field offices and be accountable for the implementation of the strategy to ensure effective financial management, asset management and financial accountability.
  3. Provide expert advice to the CEO, Senior Leadership Team, and the Board of Trustees on interpreting the management accounts, risks and forecasts and to provide remedial action as required.
  4. Develop long-term vision and action planning to achieve significant positive impact on financial management across the organisation.
  5. Provide strategic leadership and inspiring management to the team, motivating and supporting individuals in their work. Ensure the delivery of the IT systems strategy, to facilitate communications, information flow and management information, ensuring appropriate use of information technology-based systems. The IT team functions well with strong management in place, therefore the requirements for leading the IT team would be line management responsibilities only.

About You:

This role is based in the UK and open to individuals with unrestricted right to live and work in the UK. At this stage we are unable to offer sponsorship opportunities.

To be successful in this role:

  • You will be an exceptional, experienced and qualified finance professional with significant post qualification experience including SLT level.
  • You will be Certified/Chartered Accountant with a recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA or equivalent)
  • You will have strong experience of leading an Internal finance function and the ability to work effectively at both strategic and operational levels.
  • You will have worked within a large international organisation preferably within the not-for-profit sector (but not essential)
