We exist to give our nation’s heroes one less battle to fight, to enable them to live secure and healthy lives with purpose. Help for Heroes supports those with injuries and illnesses attributable to or sustained during their service in the British Armed Forces, and their families. No matter when someone served, we believe that those prepared to put their lives second, deserve a second chance at life. Our services and support programmes aim to empower them to look beyond illness and injury, regain their purpose, reach their potential and have a positive impact on society.

We have an incredible, new opportunity for a Head of Activity, Sport and Fellowship Community to unite three services for even greater beneficiary impact.

Please see below for more information on what just might be your future role.

About You

Do you have senior leadership experience in relevant third sector or statutory service settings with strong service development and design skills, and the ability to innovate? Do your excellent interpersonal and influencing skills enable you to build relationships and confidently steer change? This role requires quality of experience for service users and a focus on ensuring impactful, sustainable Recovery services to be at the heart of all you do. Therefore, being familiar with the sorts of health and social issues affecting the charity’s demographic and able to recognise the power of co-production principles in ensuring the Recovery opportunities offered remain responsive and relevant to beneficiary needs would be most excellent.

Do you have considerable acumen in the leadership and management of dispersed teams, promoting high staff engagement and are excited by the breadth and richness of the Recovery activities and opportunities offered, whether of a health and physical wellbeing, sport or fellowship/peer support nature? If you also thrive on working collaboratively to harness knowledge, skills and resources to develop and deliver a strong service vision to meet the Recovery needs of beneficiaries now and in the future, this is the role for you.

About the Role

This is a National role with opportunity to be primarily based at one of our larger Recovery Centres in Wiltshire or North Yorkshire, however with extensive travel.

The position carries responsibility for the strategic and operational performance of a broad and fundamental service area, within timescales and to budget and quality standards. As such, the post holder will provide professional accountability and excellent functional leadership to support a best practice culture across all locations in which Fellowship, Sport, Activity and leisure opportunities are delivered, including Recovery Centres and community settings.

About the Team

The role is part of the Recovery leadership team and reports to the Services Director. The postholder will work closely with other Heads of Service, including clinical service specialisms, local Recovery Managers and many other disciplines to achieve our goals and deliver our Business Plan. You will be supported by experienced managers and other colleagues (your direct reports) with a diverse range of valuable skills and experience, working from a variety of locations.

If you have any questions about the role or need further information please do not hesitate to contact us via email to jobs@helpforheroes.org.uk. Alternatively, for an informal conversation about the role, please contact Lis Skeet, Services Director on 07483 052028.
