Partnerships and Fundraising Manager

Little Village’s mission is to make it as easy as possible for families to support one another when times are tough.  We collect great quality donations from local families, and we get these out to other local families in need via friendly drop-in sessions.  We work closely with other local organisations to achieve our goals and engage our target families.  We create inclusive opportunities for volunteering designed to build confidence and community, and we promote sustainable living.

We currently have three sites across London, and we have fulfilled 6200 referrals since we launched in 2016.  We're looking for a talented, entrepreneurial, persuasive and passionate fundraiser to help us grow our organisation in line with our values. We have secured some core costs support for the next 5 years, but we still have some challenging fundraising targets to hit. In this role you would have the opportunity to shape our fundraising strategy and help us to build the financial sustainability of our small but ambitious organisation.

We're looking for someone who can work a minimum of 28 hours a week (our working week is 35 hours). These hours need to be spread across at least 3 days of the week. But beyond that, we’re open about how and where they are done. We're passionate about ensuring our roles work with the grain of family life.

Job role and purpose

You will ensure that Little Village puts community building at the heart of its fundraising strategy as well as its operations. You will lead the work, with support from the CEO and Head of Programmes, to meet annual income targets through the development and implementation of a partnerships strategy to maximise income and engagement from charitable trusts, foundations, corporates and major donors. As the first fundraiser we’ve had on payroll, you’ll help us to build the systems we need to manage our funder and supporter relationships, and to track progress against funded projects.

About you

You’ll be passionate about tackling child poverty and motivated by our values of love, solidarity, thriving and sustainability. You’ll be an enterprising and ambitious fundraiser who comes with experience of how to build financial sustainability into a growing organisation. You’ll know how to build relationships over time, and you aren’t phased by ambitious income targets. You will have incredible interpersonal skills and an eye for opportunities. You’ll love working in the environment of a small, ambitious and relatively new organisation. You’re a team player who knows how to collaborate and is able to keep their eye on the bigger picture.

  • Manage and grow our Supporter Development Manager, helping them to expand the opportunities for funding from our local sites, with a focus on local businesses, schools and individuals, and engendering a ‘supporter-centric’ culture across Little Village.

Raise income against agreed targets

  • Working with the Board and CEO, to develop and implement Little Village’s 3-5 year fundraising strategy. This includes developing our funding pipeline as well as hitting in-year income targets.

  • Line-manage and develop our Supporter Engagement Manager, who will work with you to grow local supporter networks around each of our hubs in order to hit local fundraising targets.

Contribute to Little Village’s growth as a sustainable organisation

  • Bring an entrepreneurial mindset to Little Village’s fundraising activities, defining the balance of work between different fundraising/income generating opportunities.
  • Act as a brand ambassador, conveying our mission and values at every interaction and engaging people in our work authentically so that they want to become supporters.
  • Analyse and report on fundraising activity, and to make adjustments to plans and activity accordingly
  • With the Head of Operations and Finance Manager, define the systems and processes required to enable us to better manage and deepen our supporter and funder relationships, and monitor progress against fundraising targets.
  • Adhere to data protection legislation and stay up to date with the guidelines of the Fundraising Regulator and GDPR, and promote where necessary.

Essential skills

  • Significant experience and proven success in at least one of the following: soliciting and securing high value gifts; cultivating relationships with corporate partners; engaging grant makers and foundations in long-term partnerships.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in leading strategic fundraising work, with a proven ability to bring together a range of fundraising techniques and systems to achieve targets
  • Willingness to work to understand the heart of the organisation, identifying its strengths and marketable characteristics.
  • Tech-savvy, with excellent communication skills across all channels
  • The ability to write compelling, coherent and persuasive written propositions that are based on hard figures and evidence.
  • Self-starter and a team player who knows how to get the best out of people in a non-hierarchical workplace
  • Good knowledge of relevant charitable legislation and guidelines

Desirable but not essential

  • Experience of working in or with small charities
  • Experience of working on the issues surrounding child poverty
  • Knowledge of Salesforce, Raisers Edge, Mailchimp and Xero

A short note on Little Village’s values and behaviours

We have four values that shape our language, culture and behaviours. These are love, solidarity, sustainability and thriving. We look for people who share these values and who embody them in how they behave. The following behaviours are what we look for in all our team:

  • We build relationships at every opportunity through practising empathy and connection with each other, with our volunteers and supporters, and with the families and referral partners who visit us.
  • We are energetic and professional. We bring a practical, can-do attitude to everything we do.
  • We invite people to bring their whole selves to our work, and in return we ask for honesty and a willingness to be vulnerable.
  • We show kindness, generosity and compassion to each other and those around us.
  • We put care at the heart of everything we do – caring for the planet through treading lightly on it, and caring for our families, through making time for that vital unpaid work.
  • We are focused on our mission, hungry to learn, and up for change if it brings us closer to fulfilling our purpose of tackling child poverty so that we are no longer needed.
