About the Role

The Strategic Partnerships Manager (Europe) will play an important role in developing and implementing the organisation’s plans in the United Kingdom and the rest of Europe and identifying new opportunities for funding to support the Fund’s mission and grantees.

The Strategic Partnerships Manager (Europe) should be a dynamic, experienced, and adaptable individual, with a commitment to equality and justice. Because the Fund has an ambitious plan to grow and underwrite more human rights work worldwide, the Strategic Partnerships Manager will be responsible for growing the portfolio of grants from European foundations, bilateral and multilateral donors, and/or corporations.

Committed to the Fund’s mission of mobilizing resources for the human rights movement, candidates should be able to identify and realize diverse funding opportunities, enjoy building and nurturing relationships, and have the analytical and writing skills to prepare a wide range of donor materials.

The successful candidate will be part of a small and dynamic Development team in the European Office as well as a member of the Fund’s global Strategic Partnerships team. As such, the manager will report to and work closely with the European Office’s Director in London and the Fund’s Director of Strategic Partnerships in New York. This position would be based in London.

Reports to: Director of the European Office with dotted line to Director of Strategic Partnerships.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities | Where You’ll Make the Most Impact

Fundraising & Development

  • Identify and maximise new sources of income from trusts, foundations and other institutional donors in the UK and Europe
  • Conduct prospect research and develop strategic approaches to cultivate new donors and funding opportunities in Europe
  • Represent the Fund in external outreach and networking spaces with the goal of building the Fund’s network of prospects
  • Manage a portfolio of current and prospective foundation, corporate foundation, and bilateral donors, including those giving six-figure grants
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with donors and prospects to keep them informed about programmatic developments and elicit support for the Fund’s growth
  • Develop and draft compelling, concept notes, letters of inquiry, grant proposals and reports for institutional funders and prospects, persuasively communicating the Fund’s mission and programmes

Coordination and Project Management

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with programme, operations and finance staff to manage project budgets, activities, and track expenses
  • Learn about programmatic developments, and drive forward programmatic growth goals by matching with funding opportunities
  • Track communications related to current, pending, and prospective grants in Salesforce database; ensure that all deadlines are met; monitor and ensure the Fund’s compliance with grant requirements
  • Assist in donor engagement activities, such as occasional event planning and related tasks as needed
  • Actively participate in internal planning and objective-setting processes

Qualifications | Minimum Requirements

  • 5-6 years of Development and fundraising experience.
  • Experience successfully securing funds from a range of institutional donors, including in Europe.
  • Experience and track record of drafting and building complex proposal bids and reports.
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to analyse complex information and present it in an accessible format for different audiences.
  • Excellent verbal communication and inter-personal skills and ability to represent the Fund to donors.
  • Experience in project management and building budgets.
  • Fluency in English
  • Legal right to work in the UK

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programmes
  • Commitment to human rights and social justice and familiarity with international issues.
  • Experience working in international contexts or multicultural working environments
  • Proficiency in another European language
