Retail Operations Manager

Office and home based but with daily travel to shops across the Gloucestershire region

We support adults with life-limiting illness from diagnosis onwards. We help them to understand and to cope with their illness, its impact on their lives, and support them to live well. We support family and carers too, and provide a Hospice at Home service, enabling people in the last three months of life to stay at home if that is their choice.

The success of our 20 retail outlets based throughout the Gloucestershire region are critical to our ability to deliver our clinical services to the local community. We are now searching for a new committed and passionate individual to be our operational lead for our charity retail shop business. In this exciting role you will support the Director of Operations to build and deliver Longfield’s retail strategy.

In this busy and demanding role, you will lead the retail team with direct responsibility for your own shops, 2 cluster managers and 3 Mobile Cover Supervisors.  Our shops are modern, light and airy and our merchandised is displayed to a high and consistent standard. We are innovative in our outlook and look to upcycle where possible, we have our own ebay shop, second hand book selling business, vintage shop and wedding department.

As well as being responsible for the day to day running of our shops, your responsibilities will be wide and varied. You will coordinate shop premises maintenance, lead on plans for refurbishments and new retail outlets, ensuring that the retail financial and performance targets are achieved across the network of shops, monitoring the gift aid system and carry out the declaration and notifications with HMRC.

Together with the Cluster Managers and Shop Managers you will be responsible for all recruitment, induction and staff training as well as dealing with sometimes, quite complex employee relations issues.

We are looking for someone who has significant retail and multi-site experience preferably in the charity sector. You will bring to the role your passion and enthusiasm for maximising potential both in terms of shop profits and of the employees and volunteers who work in them.

You will need to be IT literate with excellent communication skills with substantial experience of leading and motivating shop based teams.

You will be a skilled problem solver, able to work through complex and unexpected operational challenges and find win-win solutions. Experienced at managing conflicting priorities, you will also be committed to providing excellent customer service and working cross-functionally with other hospice departments.

The successful applicant will be required to undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Baring Service Check.
