about us …

We are a community interest company passionate about developing and supporting equal opportunity for everyone in our community… from the ground up.

about the role …

We have undertaken an exciting collaboration with settle (housing group) where we are looking to tackle the gap in understanding and support for the long-term unemployed.  This we aim to do by providing those settle tenants seeking work with not only insight, development and training, but also ‘hand held’ support right up to securing a job … and then beyond as they ‘settle in’.  Your role will be that of mentor: guiding, driving, challenging and supporting them in their journey back into work.

key requirements …

We need someone who can:

  • Provide 1:1 dedicated support to around 15 tenants at any given time, including face to face, telephone or online based communication
  • Undertake empathetic and detailed assessment of tenants’ needs
  • Listen to and help tenants resolve a range of issues that may be creating barriers to learning, development and ultimately, job searching
  • Draw up agreed action plans with tenants and monitor their progress
  • Implement strategies and support tenants in addressing their needs
  • Support and accompany tenants throughout all stages to gaining employment including, for example, interviews and induction

in addition …

Someone who can:

  • Present an authentic and credible face to employers and be able to understand their challenges and manage their expectations
  • Play an active part in our wider team, contributing to our thinking and ambitions

Finally, as we are fully committed to safeguarding and the welfare of our clients, successful applicants will be required to undergo a criminal records (DBS) check

about you …

We are looking for individuals who share our passion and values and, like us, want to make a difference within the community in which we live.

absolute must haves …

We need someone who:

  • Has experience of planning co-ordinating and delivering 1:1 intervention work
  • Believes in and actively demonstrates respect for difference and diversity
  • Is comfortable working with clients who are experiencing difficult and stressful situations
  • Is capable of working in a calm, patient and tolerant manner at a pace appropriate to the needs of the individual
  • Is able to maintain a caring but focused approach in difficult situations
  • Has strong verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate sensitively to others
  • Can engage with individuals to develop and sustain supportive and trusting relationships
  • Full clean UK driving licence and access to vehicle for work

and these would be useful …

Someone who:

  • Has a good understanding/experience of the range of issues face by individuals experiencing barriers to learning and employment
  • Has some experience of liaising with various agencies or organisations such as Job Centre Plus, employers, local education providers
  • Ability to work under pressure, work flexibly and prioritise workload
  • Is open minded and demonstrates a pro-active approach to problem solving
  • Some knowledge of social housing and tenancy management.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the barriers that Mental Health conditions can present to people trying to get into work

what’s on offer …

  • A friendly and progressive organisation
  • 3 days per week
  • A competitive salary (pro rata)
  • Stakeholder pension

This is a fixed term contract covering maternity leave for a minimum of 6 months.
