Job Description

BACKGROUND

Over the past 80 years, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) has developed unparalleled expertise in responding to emergencies and helping uprooted communities rebuild. Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. The IRC is on the ground in some 40 countries, providing emergency relief and rebuilding lives in the wake of disaster. Through 28 regional offices in cities across the United States, the IRC also helps refugees resettle in the US and become self-sufficient. The International Rescue Committee has its headquarters in New York and its Europe office London.

The IRC is committed to a culture of bold leadership, innovation in all aspects of our work, creative partnerships and, most crucially, accountability to those we serve. The IRC is a tireless advocate for the most vulnerable.

GLOBAL PARTNERSHIPS AND PHILANTHROPY (GPP) DIVISION AND NEW PRIVATE SECTOR FUNDRAISING MARKETS

GPP is currently fundraising from the private sector in established markets (the UK, US and in recent years in Germany from Major Donors) and in addition, remotely via digital channels in 20 new markets in FY19. However in FY20 and beyond, it has ambitious plans to start more in-country private sector fundraising markets while at the same time to grow its pool of sustainer donors. For example, in FY20, Sweden will be the first. GPP will also start fundraising pilots to individuals in Germany via online and offline channels such as TM and Face to Face. Thereafter, GPP has future plans to start additional in-country fundraising operations such as in South Korea and potentially Spain and Canada.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

As New Market Development Fundraising Manager you will be part of the Strategic Growth Unit, which falls within the Global Partnerships and Philanthropy Division (GPP).

In this role, you will focus entirely on starting and supporting new in-country private sector markets, with a particular focus on driving IRCs sustainer (regular giving) growth. This role will not be fundraising in our long standing established markets in the US or the UK, however there may in some specific instances be collaboration with our 20 remote digital markets - for example expanding the remote digital fundraising in Spain to include offline channels such as telemarketing.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Global Opportunities and working closely with them, this role focuses on getting all elements in place to enable IRC i.e. to build a business case for in country, and once approved by the IRC leadership board providing hands on support with implementation to start in-country fundraising operations in a designated market/s. Thereafter, once we have the ‘green light’ from the organization to proceed, you will support hands-on in the set-up of those fundraising operations.

In doing so you will play a key role in helping the IRC to achieve objectives which are central to the Private Sector Engagement Strategy. These objectives include diversifying our income streams globally and increasing income for our beneficiary programs around the world, with a particular focus on sustainers - being the optimum way for the IRC to increase sustainable, long term unrestricted income.
