(Full or Part time)

Up to 12 months contract – maternity cover

Up to £38,000 per annum (pro rata)

Loughborough, Leicestershire

As a research professional this is an exciting opportunity to enjoy a CV enhancing experience while helping to improve the lives of young people. For over 20 years The Youth Sport Trust (YST) has been doing just that through the power of sport. We create, develop and deliver programmes and initiatives that improve health, attendance, academic achievement and raise whole-school standards, equipping all young people with skills for life. In 2018 we were ranked one of the best places to work in the UK by the Sunday Times Top 100 Not for Profit Companies to Work For.

As Evaluation & Research Specialist you will deliver effective research and evaluation services in-line with our insight strategy. This will involve coordinating the activities of a small team as well as managing the development, implementation and delivery of evaluations for a range of projects and programmes for both in-house and external customers. We will look to you to execute and develop our Monitoring & Evaluation framework to ensure consistent performance monitoring and impact measurement across projects. In addition, you will commission and manage external evaluators as well as oversee supporting systems and work to improve them as needed. You will also analyse, summarise and present data and findings, provide expert advice to colleagues and help to build external relationships to develop commissioned research opportunities. You will manage and enhance our Youth Insight work too.

With strong project management skills and extensive experience of primary and secondary research techniques and methodologies, you are familiar with developing logic models and research briefs. A competent user of Microsoft Office you will be expert at sourcing, summarising, presenting and analysing data and research for varying audiences. Knowledge of the principles of effective questionnaire design and research methodologies as well as an understanding of research ethics and data protection will be needed too.

Highly organised, you will also possess strong analytical and communication skills as well as an eye for detail and the ability to build relationships. Experience of Social Impact evaluations, including Social Return on Investment methodologies, would be an advantage.

If you have the skills to support our work and share our passionate belief in the benefits of sport for young people, we would like to hear from you.

Company

The Youth Sport Trust is a registered charity, established in 1994.

Our mission is to build a brighter future for young people by enhancing the quality of their physical education (PE) and sporting opportunities.

  • We want to increase young people’s participation and enjoyment of PE and school sport.
  • We want young people to have the chance to experience and enjoy different types of activity at whatever level is right for them.
  • We want to ensure youngsters receive the best teaching, coaching and resources possible and have the chance to progress if they show talent.
  • We want to help our young people to live healthy and active lives and to be the best they can be.

How we achieve our aims

Our objectives are achieved through the educational sporting programmes that we produce. These are delivered through schools and are supported by a range of corporate partners, trusts and foundations and government departments.

Another important area of work is our support of Specialist Sports Colleges. These designated sports-focused schools are at the hub of the government’s strategy to enhance young people’s opportunities to participate in a wide range of sports. They also raise the standards of teaching and learning in PE and school sport, and across the curriculum. To assist Sports Colleges in the achievement of these aims, we provide them with a framework of support and resources.
