The Ministry of Defence plays a critical role in protecting the security, independence and interests of our country at home and abroad. Our aim is to ensure that the Armed Forces have the training, equipment and support necessary for their work, and that we keep within budget. Our “Armed Forces People Programme” is one of the most far-reaching and important transformation programmes taking place in Government and is aimed at fundamentally reforming military accommodation and the Armed Forces reward strategy.

This role is one of the most challenging and exciting people policy roles in the Civil Service. As Director of Armed Forces People Policy, you will lead the reform of a huge variety of military HR strategy, policy and implementation ranging from pay, pensions and compensation, health and wellbeing, to accommodation and justice.

We need an exceptional leader to lead and deliver this important transformation programme in Defence and one of the most ambitious and high profile reform agendas across Whitehall.

This is an exciting and influential role, which also extends across a broad range of HR policy including a wide array of other significant issues that affect directly all members of the Armed Forces and their families, health and wellbeing, the Armed Forces covenant, veterans and cultural change.

The successful candidate will be an exceptional leader, with strong people management and programme management abilities. You will bring significant experience of delivering transformation through others, and have the capability to build effective, influential and collaborative relationships with stakeholders within the Department, Armed Forces and across the Service Justice System. You will need the capability, commitment and resilience to operate effectively in a highly complex environment.

Closing date: 27 October 2019.
