Main purpose of the role (job summary):

To lead an ambitious capacity development strategy and services programme, including:

  • a needs-led approach to developing a vibrant, inclusive and self-sufficient Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector
  • developing and delivering services and interventions
  • facilitating strong partnership working with the sector and with key public and private sector leaders and groups

Main Tasks

  1. To produce an annual plan including strategies/policies/initiatives focused on services including capacity building; funding advice/services; and other services (including support to BTSE Associate Members) as appropriate
  2. Develop and deliver a range of training and learning activity to support the development of the VCSE sector at individual, organisational and community-wide level.
  3. Develop and deliver evidence-based support to local VCSE organisations that builds their service/activity; organisation; and ability to adapt and operate in the local and national environment e.g. governance, volunteering, funding and bidding/tendering
  4. To support VCSE organisations to successfully apply for funding, including identifying/sharing funding opportunities and developing their capacity to successfully bid for new contracts and grants.
  5. To represent CLB externally on a range of cross-sector partnerships, and/or initiatives, including deputising for the Chief Executive, and to ensure that CLB’s profile is increased
  6. To lead on the marketing strategies and their implementation, including undertaking asset mapping research
  7. Undertake outreach and community development work and support local community-based volunteers
  8. Support sector-wide networks
  9. Develop projects (including training and other initiatives) in response to needs to provide new services
  10. To research and submit funding applications to sustain and develop the work of CLB as appropriate and as part of delivering the Funding and Investment Plan.
  11. Work with colleagues to implement systems for measuring, monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of programmes and projects
  12. To actively participate in the team and contribute to Board strategy, planning and reviews as required
  13. To manage staff, resources and volunteers as appropriate
