The Pilgrim Trust has a wide remit. It currently assists with the preservation and conservation of historic buildings, archives and works of art and with social welfare projects. We are independent and flexible in our approach and fund organisations, even in the crucial set up phase, that find it difficult to raise funds from other sources. Our portfolio covers areas such as, charities supporting vulnerable members of society and conservation and heritage organisations working to preserve and promote Britain’s historical and intellectual assets.

The Trustees are currently seeking a Director who can maintain The Pilgrim Trust’s excellent reputation whilst also developing its profile and measurable impact. You will be responsible for the overall management, operation and efficiency of The Pilgrim Trust as well as advising the Trustees on future strategies in grantmaking. You will develop and improve relationships with other grantmaking trusts, umbrella and policy organisations.

We are seeking someone with a wide range of interests, particularly in heritage and conservation, who can advocate, lead and manage. The successful candidate will be energetic and innovative, with the ability to mix with all types of people and to lead and fit in with a small, established and committed team. You will be able to demonstrate sound judgement with a robust, yet sympathetic and understanding approach to dealing with applicants for grants. You will have excellent advocacy skills that you will use to campaign on issues relevant to the Trust. In addition, you will have the ability to build strong relationships across a diverse stakeholder map that includes a wide range of grantees, experts in the field and partner organisations.

Excellent communication skills are essential, alongside a clear passion and commitment to the work of The Pilgrim Trust.

We promote equality, diversity and inclusion in our workplace. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you’re from as long as you share our values and aims.
