 About us

St Christopher’s Hospice was founded in 1967 by Dame Cicely Saunders and formed part of the modern hospice movement. Proudly celebrating more than 50 years and with a turnover of over £20 million, we provide invaluable care and support to over 6,000 people across the five London Boroughs of Bromley, Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark.

Your new role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Community Fundraiser to join our busy Fundraising Team who currently raises £1 million annually through community fundraising and bespoke fundraising events and projects.

The Senior Community Fundraiser role will be strongly focused on bringing in new community partnerships and account managing both these and existing relationships. Specifically, the post holder will work with the Community and Event Fundraising Manager to develop and deliver a strategy to increase the level of community support and income through the pro-active engagement and management of local groups, clubs, organisations and individuals across the five boroughs we support and build long term relationships with these partners; to be a representative for St Christopher’s at external events; recruit volunteers to represent the hospice at community events and at our own events such as Open Gardens and to build support of St Christopher’s from other organisations through research and submitting applications to be selected as the fundraising beneficiary of third party events. All this will fit within the overarching Fundraising Strategy and the Community and Events Strategy.

We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and driven individual who has a sound understanding of community fundraising with excellent relationship building skills. Someone who works well in a busy environment developing, managing and delivering a portfolio of initiatives, who is a team player but also able to work on own. You will be able to demonstrate a successful track record of delivering against targets in community fundraising with experience of volunteer management and growing community fundraising groups. We are looking for someone with strong interpersonal skills who is able to interact with a wide variety of individuals to achieve positive outcomes and establish sustainable relationships and partnerships.

To succeed in this role

  • Have the ability to communicate empathetically with patients and supporters around sensitive issues such as bereavement;
  • Be confident, articulate, outgoing and with excellent customer service skills;

What you will get in return is a stimulating and rewarding career with an opportunity to influence and make a real difference in the community. In addition you will benefit from access to excellent training and development opportunities, a number of health and wellbeing schemes, a competitive contributory pension scheme and life assurance scheme with generous beneficiary plan. You will also have access to free off street parking nearby and an onsite staff canteen at our Sydenham site.
