Job Title:  Grants and Prospect Manager

Hours / contract:  37 hours per week / Permanent

Salary:  circa £33k

Location:  Portsmouth

The Mary Rose Trust is responsible for conserving and displaying King Henry VIII’s favourite ship which sank in 1545 and was raised from the seabed in 1982.  The hull and her unique collection of artefacts are on display in Portsmouth for this and future generations.  It is also responsible for the world-class museum and visitor experience, and as a scientific and educational resource.  The Mary Rose is a unique and moving experience of everyday life in Tudor times, presented in an immersive manner through original artefacts, scientific research and emotionally compelling insights into the crew.

The Trust is now seeking to appoint a Grants and Prospect Manager to research, write and monitor grant applications.  Sources of funding include major grant giving bodies, trusts and foundations, including those run by individuals.  The successful candidate will also identify, research and establish personal links with high value individual donor prospects to generate a pipeline for the CEO and Head of Development.

To be effective in this role you will need to demonstrate the following:

  • At least three years’ fundraising experience
  • Clear evidence of researching and writing of successful applications to a wide range of Trusts & Foundations/ grant giving bodies
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with good attention to detail
  • Experience of working with, and motivating, supporters and volunteers
  • Good working knowledge of prospect management and using data management techniques to support fundraising
  • Good interpersonal, relationship building and influencing skills
  • Sound current working knowledge of Data Protection and GDPR compliance

The President of the Mary Rose Trust is HRH The Prince of Wales, who has been involved with the Mary Rose ever since his first dive on the wreck back in 1974. Prince Charles continues to follow the project with a very close interest, and has played an active role in our objective of reuniting the Mary Rose with her incredible collection of artefacts.
