Income Officer / Rent Officer

Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire

£26,476 to £29,418 per annum

Closing Date: 18th October

Our client is the largest independent housing association in the Borough of Broxbourne, providing more than 4,600 homes across Hertfordshire and Essex.

They are seeking a self-motivated Income Officer with a creative approach to problem-solving, who will help to maximise their rental income within a value for money framework and in line with policy and procedure.

You will effectively manage all rent accounts within a geographical patch, ensuring that income is maximised and performance targets are met in association with management and/or care and support services. Further to this, you will negotiate payment agreements after completing income and expenditures with customers making repayment plans, signpost them to welfare benefit advice and debt management services and will ensure that legal action is taken to recover debt including making applications to and representing them in court. This role will require you to visit customers in their own homes.

The successful candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to negotiate with contractors and partner agencies. You will need to liaise effectively with customers, relevant housing benefit providers and Department of Work and Pensions through writing, phone calls and face to face meetings and build proactive partnerships with external agencies including Citizens Advice and Court Service. Experience in housing, ideally working in an income recovery role, and knowledge of the welfare benefit system and of pre-action protocol are essential.

A full UK driving licence is also essential for this post.

All their vacancies are open to flexible working arrangements. They offer a competitive benefits package including generous leave entitlements and a personal pension scheme. They believe in the benefits of a diverse workforce and strongly welcome applications from those currently under-represented in the organisation, including LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) people, people with disabilities and people from black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds.
