Power to Change is an independent charitable trust that supports community businesses in England, endowed by the National Lottery Community Fund. Their vision is to “create better places through community businesses”. The organisation has been established as a spend-down Trust, with the aim of significantly accelerating the growth and impact of community business in England, thereby creating a sustainable legacy of robust community businesses which will endure well beyond the Trust’s existence. Since 2015, Power to Change has invested £60 million in over 1,000 community businesses, and engaged with thousands more through research, advocacy and policy work at very local, regional and national levels.

We are now seeking a new Director of Finance & Resources to join the dynamic and creative leadership team. A key role in the organisation, you will be part of the team building the profile of a movement that will change the face of the country. You will have responsibility for Finance, Procurement and general operations (including IT, data and CRM systems). Leading on all financial aspects of the Charity including budgets and controls, internal financial procedures and processes, management and statutory accounting and audit. Without further investment, the organisation faces closure at the end of the spend-down in 2022. Success at the end of Power to Change’s ten years would mean that community business is a better recognised and more highly valued approach to addressing local economic, social and environmental challenges; this role presents an opportunity for you to play a key part in delivering on this ambition.

The new Director needs to be a qualified senior finance professional with strong strategic and operational abilities. We are looking for a collaborative leader with high emotional intelligence and good interpersonal skills, who will not only be adept at leading and securely delivering a robust financial plan but able to work across the organisation to leverage the overall performance of the charity. We need someone with experience of managing IT services and Customer Relationship Management software, knowledge of procurement and experience of managing outsourced providers. Experience of charity accounting, grant-making or social investment would be desirable.
