Our client is the UK's leading dementia charity. They provide information and support, improve care, fund research, and create lasting change for people affected by dementia.

Position: Dementia Advisor
Location: Barnet, London
Contract type: Full Time, Permanent
Hours: 35 per week
Salary: £19,964 to £20,770 depending on skills and experience, plus London allowance of £3,600

About the role:

The Dementia Adviser service is available to people who have received a diagnosis of dementia, or are in the process of receiving a diagnosis. Dementia advisers provide support to understand key information around a diagnosis of dementia and what this may mean for the service user and family.

The successful candidate will provide a highly responsive, individualised information and signposting service to people with a diagnosis of dementia. You will also provide an extended information and signposting service to immediate carers, families and friends of the people who are referred to the service.

You will market the Dementia Adviser Service and develop a network of support from health and care professionals who will refer people with a diagnosis to the service.

Co-located with the CMHT Memory Service in Barnet, the Dementia Adviser will be responsible for supporting all new referrals through the health pathway. The Dementia Adviser offers a point of contact for all people during the process of getting a diagnosis and also works after diagnosis assist people with dementia and their carers in identifying their needs. You will provide people with support and help to maintain their independence, improving their sense of well-being and help them to stay in control of their lives.

About you:

They are looking for individuals educated to NVQ level 3 or equivalent (or demonstrable experience) with the following skills (those marked with a * are desirable):

- Good organising and time management skills
- Experience of face-to-face service delivery
- An understanding of dementia*
- An understanding of the needs of people with dementia and their carers *
- Experience of working with statutory and voluntary agencies *
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Health & Safety and the Mental Capacity Act *
- Experience of record keeping and report writing
- An understanding of the need for client confidentiality

A good standard of IT skills is a pre-requisite of the role. You will also need to be able to travel the area independently.

The successful candidate will be required to have an enhanced DBS.

You may have experience of the following: Dementia Adviser, Care Assistant, Caseworker, Special Needs Assistant, Social Worker, Social Care, Community Care, Helpline Coordinator, Volunteering Officer, Support Worker, Mental Health, Dementia etc.
