Public Affairs Officer

The National Pharmacy Association is the representative voice of independent community pharmacies across the UK. Position: Public Affairs Officer
Location: St Albans
Job type: Full Time, Permanent
Hours: 35 hours per week
Salary: £26,000 to £30,000 depending on experience

About the role:

The key purpose of the role is to contribute to the development of policy position’s relating to issues of strategic importance and concern to the NPA and its members and to support the Association’s public affairs activities.

Responsibilities:

- Development and maintenance of excellent relationships with members and external stakeholders as evidenced by collection and analysis of feedback
- Maintenance of a log of NPA policy as evidenced by up to date and accessible documents
- Maintenance of a log of representation activity successes as evidenced by up to date and accessible documents
- Communications to NPA members which promote their understanding of NPA policy and public affairs work as evidenced by collection and analysis of feedback
- Provision of advice to NPA members seeking information on the NPA’s policy and public affairs agenda, as evidenced by positive member feedback
- To build and protect the reputation of the NPA among key external audiences and members, and to monitor and alert internal stakeholders to significant emerging issues in the policy arena
- Contribute significantly to the development of NPA policy in England in consultation with members, NPA staff and the Board, co-ordinating with the devolved nations
- Contribute significantly to the development and delivery of public affairs strategies
- Perform research to underpin policy development
- Organise policy and practice focussed events
- Communicate views on prioritised issues to stakeholders effectively
- Contribute to the development of newsletters, press releases and articles to inform NPA members of policy and public affairs activity and outcomes
- Develop and promote toolkits to support NPA members in running their own campaigns
- Support the NPA presence at conferences and other events
- Attend events and meetings on behalf of the NPA
- Gather evidence on member experience to support the public affairs agenda, including developing case studies, running surveys and analysing data

About you:

- Graduate preferably with a qualification in pharmacy, healthcare, communications management, policy studies or politics
- Demonstrable experience of policy and public affairs work
- Experience of working in the Health sphere desirable
- Experience in reviewing and evaluating documents, reports and legislation
- Analysing and appraising complex data, with ability to exemplify future trends from the analysis made
- Have experience in producing briefings and policy reports
- Excellent understanding of the political climate as well as current and pending changes in the UK, along with good understanding of the public sector and the impact of such changes on it
- Competent computer literacy with all major Microsoft Office packages
- You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence others
