About Us

The National Lottery Community Fund is the largest community funder in the UK we’re proud to award money raised by players of The National Lottery  to communities across the UK. We distribute around £650 million worth of National Lottery Funding across the UK each year supporting health, educational, environmental, and charitable projects. We are fortunate to be able to support around 12,000 projects each year with grants ranging from as little as £500 to multi-million-pound programmes.

At the heart of everything we do is the belief that when people are in the lead, communities thrive. National Lottery funding is open to everyone and we’re privileged to be able to work with the smallest of grassroots groups right up to large UK-wide charities. We have changed how we work across the Fund to help us serve people and communities more effectively, working flexibly and on their terms; working closer to communities.

The National Lottery Community Fund has made significant investments in the environment since its inception, through community-led projects that are focussed on activities that not only improve but use the environment to enhance the lives of people and communities. In July 2019, we announced that we would be stepping up our commitment to action on climate change with the launch of the Climate Action Fund.

The Climate Action Fund

The £100m Climate Action Fund aims, over the next 10 years, to build a network of people and communities taking the lead on meaningful, high impact and sustainable action to reduce the impact of climate change. These communities will be exemplars for what is possible when communities take the lead on climate change and will proactively seek, with our support, to share their learning and engage others to create a broader movement of change.

Within communities we will be looking to support community-led, place-based partnerships which are well placed to drive change within and beyond their community. Our ambition is for these partnerships to achieve meaningful impact that lasts after our funding has ended and engages a wide movement of people and communities across the UK, beyond the places we fund directly. Specifically, we aim for the partnerships we support to: - Reduce their carbon footprint sustainably - Increase participation in community-led climate action, within and beyond their own communities

Central to our ability to deliver against the ambitions of the Climate Action Fund is an explicit and pro-active approach to learning and broad dissemination of that learning amongst but also beyond the communities we fund directly. This is about
ensuring that the learning leads to fundamental behaviour change and wider movement building around action on climate change.
