Sustrans is the charity making it easier for people to walk and cycle. Our vision is a society where the way we travel creates healthier places and happier lives for everyone. This can only be achieved by working together, in partnership with other charities, governments, business and most importantly - communities.
As a practical impact-led charity, we help create places that are walkable and cycle-friendly. But our work is not just about infrastructure. We work within communities to provide more opportunities for our beneficiaries to walk, cycle, scoot or wheel. And we work with decision-makers to create policies that make walking and cycling a more attractive choice.
Over the next five years our priority will be working with others to revitalise the National Cycle Network, creating paths for everyone; and making our towns and cities more liveable places for everyone.
We are now looking to appoint new Trustees to join our Board.
We are keen to bring greater diversity to the Board and particularly welcome candidates with a lived disability and/or from black and minority ethnic backgrounds.
You are likely to have a professional background in financing and investment, local government, environment, risk, governance, engineering, health and safety and/or the diversity field.
Interested applicants will need to be able to demonstrate strong competencies in their individual field(s) of expertise and a genuine empathy for the organisation’s vision, values and objectives. Ideally you will have experience of operating on a Board of a charitable, commercial or public-sector organisation.
Excellent interpersonal skills and your ability to collaborate effectively will be key and you must be able to demonstrate a track record of achievement, sound judgment and effective decision making.
Living anywhere in the UK, you should be available for a minimum of six Board meetings and additional sub-committee meetings each year. Meetings are held around the UK.
Being a Trustee of Sustrans is a rewarding experience. This is a unique and exciting opportunity for individuals to make a real difference and add value to this established organisation that is pursuing ambitious objectives.
