Job Details

The Organisation
MHI is the first charity dedicated to digital innovation to support mental health and will develop emerging technology for the sector. MHI combines digital innovation, data-driven analysis and the experience of mental health experts. Its purpose is to transform lives by improving access to helpful digital resources for mental ill health in the UK. The first digital programme is Shout, a 24/7 digital mental health service for people in crisis, developed in partnership with the US charity Crisis Text Line. MHI works in partnership with charity partners, academic institutions and the corporate sector to help improve mental health in the UK.

Mental Health Innovations
Head of Operations
West London
£55,000 to £60,000

Shout operates 24/7 and connects people in need to trained volunteers who provide help at a time when it is most needed; enabling them to move from a moment of crisis to a calm state and form a plan for next steps to find longer-term support. As texting is private and silent, it opens up a whole new way to find help.  It provides instant support - you can have a conversation at any time – at school, at home, on the bus, anywhere.

Shout is powered by a team of volunteers who are at the heart of the service. They are trained to create a safe space for people experiencing mental health challenges. The programme is unique with the training and volunteering all done online, under the supervision of qualified clinicians. Working remotely, volunteers are part of a supportive and connected online community of 1,000, with the ambition of boosting that community significantly by the end of the year.

The Role
As MHI begins to move beyond the initial start-up phase, the Head of Operations will lead collaboratively on driving MHI and Shout forward. The Person
Candidates should demonstrate the following:

•Strong, empathic leader and motivating people manager
•Focused, decisive problem-solver who gets stuck in with the team to fix issues
•Experience in start-up or fast-moving operational environment, where you are happy to devise solutions on the go
•Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across all departments
