Head of Development

Dulwich Picture Gallery, founded in 1811, is the world’s first purpose-built public art gallery. We care for and display our outstanding collection of Old Master paintings within Sir John Soane’s pioneering architecture. As an independent gallery, we remain true to our founders’ purpose of presenting art ‘for the inspection of the publick’ by engaging as many people as possible, of all ages and backgrounds, through our innovative interpretation and dynamic programme.

We are entering an exciting phase, with several very important projects on the horizon. To help us achieve our goals we are recruiting a Head of Development to lead on our fundraising and income generation strategy across major donor, trusts, corporate and membership, manage our fundraising team and contribute to the overall operation at Dulwich Picture Gallery as an active member of our Senior Leadership Team.

We are hoping to recruit a skilled major donor fundraiser with experience gained in the charity, higher education or arts sectors. A background working for an arts organisation is not vital; more important is a passion for the work of Dulwich Picture Gallery. It is also important for our Head of Development to be comfortable with change as we react to opportunities that arise, which may involve a change in strategy to achieve objectives. They must also be happy to positively challenge us with new ideas and innovation.

We are a friendly, open and collaborative organisation with a wonderful working culture and a passionate staff group, keen to learn and develop. Investing in people is at the heart of our organisation, and we look forward to supporting our new Head of Development to achieve great things with us.
