Interim Head of HR and Operations

We are delighted to be supporting The Access Project to recruit an Interim HR and Operations Manager. The purpose of this role is to provide immediate hands on support whilst they recruit their new Director of Operations. Prospectus is looking to recruit someone with a strong HR background that can support the wider operations team on a day to day basis. Please be advised this is a full-time post for a period of 2- 4 months and there is flexibility to work on a part-time basis.
Access to university is profoundly unfair in our society.At present, students from the most disadvantaged backgrounds are ten times less likely to get into a top university compared to their more advantaged peers. As a charity, The Access Project run a programme with 1300 young people aged 14-18 across 31 schools. We recruit and train graduate volunteers to be exceptional tutors who work with our students for an hour a week to raise their grades. The Access Project currently works in London and the East and West Midlands. We have a growing team (currently 50 people) working in schools and in our regional offices.
Reporting to the CEO, the successful candidate will play a key role in line managing the Operations team who work on a full and part-time basis. As well as this, you will provide day to day support to line managers, advising on any staff issues as and when they arise. The placed candidate will handle internal recruitment processes supporting with recruitment, new starters and management of pay award schemes. Working closely with line managers, there will be the opportunity to be a part of the organisation's annual performance appraisal system, overseeing and developing existing processes and procedures. As well as day today operational duties, the post-holder will perform a review of existing HR policies, making recommendations as and when required. In addition, the placed candidate will project manage the implementation and roll out of the new HR system.
To be considered for this role, it is essential to have experience of line managing a team with an understanding of key day to day HR and operational duties. Project management skills are required for this role as well as a strong understanding of employment law. This role requires you to have exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships with staff at all levels.
