Job Details

At the Canal & River Trust, we believe life is better by water. Set up in 2012 to care for historic waterways across England and Wales, we aim to bring wellbeing benefits to millions by transforming our canals and rivers into spaces where local people can spend time and feel better. Join us, as we embark on an exciting period of growth, and you can provide the supporter care and engagement we need to turn that vision into reality.

About the role

You’ll help manage, develop and deliver the Trust’s supporter care and stewardship programmes, including our sector-leading face-to-face recruitment programme, Friends. This will involve looking at long-term programme strategy, as well as taking charge of more immediate concerns such as managing welcome pack materials, coordinating specialist agencies and suppliers, and ensuring all supporters enjoy the best possible service and care. The role also gives you responsibility for a small team.

About you

We’re looking for an outstanding project manager who will be passionate about getting to know our supporters inside out. Having already run a successful supporter care programme, you’ll know exactly what it takes to grow supporter loyalty, ensure high retention levels and mitigate attrition – and you’ll also know how to develop the systems and processes that make it all possible.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills are important, as you will need to build strong working relationships with colleagues across the Trust, particularly those in our fundraising and marketing teams. Other key areas of experience we look for include payment methods, financial systems, and copywriting and design.

About us
We look after and bring to life 2,000 miles of canals and rivers. Our waterways contribute to the health and wellbeing of local communities and economies, creating attractive and connected places to live, work, volunteer and spend leisure time. These historic, natural and cultural assets form part of the strategic and local green-blue infrastructure network, linking urban and rural communities as well as habitats. Our waterways are on the doorstep of 8 million people and reach some of the most deprived communities within the UK. By caring for our waterways and promoting their use we believe we can improve the wellbeing of our nation.  Come and be part of it.

To apply

We aim to represent the diverse communities we are part of and welcome applicants from across all sectors of the community. We strongly believe that a diverse workforce brings with it a diversity of ideas, thinking and ways of working which enhances what we do. Many of our vacancies can be considered for people who wish to work flexibly, job share or part time.

Company

No other charity brings so much free, open, and accessible blue and green space to the doorstep of so many. With your support, we can continue our work.

We are one of the UK’s biggest charities and we care for 2,000 miles of canals, rivers, docks and reservoirs because we believe life is better by water.

Along with our waterways we also manage museums, archives and the country’s third largest collection of historic buildings. These all enable us to offer wellbeing opportunities to millions of people each year.

Supporting this varied community who live, work and play on our canals means that we need an incredibly varied workforce. From engineers to ecologists, museum attendants to marketers, hundreds of people work at the Trust, all striving to make sure life is always better by the water.
