Job Details

The John Ellerman Foundation is an independent, endowed grant- maker, which aims to advance the wellbeing of people, society and the natural world through the arts, environment and social action. We spend over £5m annually on a range of organisations doing work of national significance. Core funding is our signature, but we will also fund projects if that is what is most needed.

We are led by our values - being responsive, discerning, connected and flexible with a personal touch reflects how we think, work and engage with grantees and the wider sector.  Building and maintaining relationships through every stage of our grant process, whilst being thoughtful and learning from the grants we make, is an important part of our culture.

The Foundation is unusual in that Trustees play a very active part in all stages of the grantmaking process. They are appointed for their specialist knowledge and experience, and their engagement brings special insights and opportunities, and a distinct operating model.

Director

London

Circa £95,000 plus attractive benefits

In 2018 we launched a new grants strategy, staying true to our areas of interest, whilst introducing some sharper focus.   Just over a year into this strategy, Trustees are keen to take stock, learn from experience, and turn their attention to how the Foundation can add value to the grants we make. We are also interested in exploring our convening role across the sector, to amplify further the impact and voice of our grantees.

We’re looking for a Director to work with an exceptional group of Trustees and staff in leading the Foundation. The successful candidate could come from a range of backgrounds across the public, private or charity sectors, but should have experience and knowledge of charities, and a strong understanding of public policy and financing in relation to one or more of the Foundation’s areas of grant making. Importantly, you will bring a highly collaborative working style that embraces a non-hierarchical approach, whilst being a credible and inspiring organisational leader with experience of guiding and empowering small but effective teams.
