This organisation, a literature festival in Manchester, seeks an effective, inspiring and dynamic Chair of the Board of Trustees to lead the organisation through the next phase of its development.

The Festival takes place annually in October, and also presents a Spring programme, signature events and ongoing educational projects.

Profiling both fiction and non-fiction by established and emerging writers, and providing a platform for women writers, LGBTQ+ writers, working class writers and writers of colour, the programme includes new commissions, world literature, culture, new writing and events for young readers.

Previous guests have included Margaret Atwood, Arundhati Roy, Simon Armitage, Seamus Heaney, Tracey Thorn, Ben Okri, Shami Chakrabarti, Afua Hirsh, Alan Johnson and Vivienne Westwood.

The Festival is a National Portfolio Organisation and was central to the designation of Manchester as a UNESCO City of Literature in 2017.

The role of the Chair

The new Chair will be tasked with building on the organisation's achievements by leading on the delivery of its strategic aims, so that the organisation has more impact on a sustainable long-term basis.

Trustees wish to strengthen areas such as strategic planning, fundraising, and marketing and communications. It is anticipated that a visionary, dynamic Chair will bring expertise and experience in a number of these areas, to raise the ambition and profile of the festival.

The Chair will need to have a proven track record in strategic leadership, managing people and delivering change, with experience in governance, external relations and advocacy.

The closing date for applications is 5pm on Friday 23 August 2019
