London is a city of extremes – extreme wealth and extreme poverty, challenging issues but many organisations, institutions and individuals working together to tackle these collaboratively.

In the past year 2 reports, https://www.centreforlondon.org/publication/more-better-together-giving-london/ from Centre for London, and a GLA commissioned report, http://rocketsciencelab.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/GLA-Philanthropy-Report-120918.pdf from Rocket Science, have outlined the major issues around harnessing the power of giving in London and raised ideas and questions about the role the GLA and the Mayor can play in this work.

This role is an exciting opportunity to develop the work on behalf of the GLA.

You will work on creating a new governance structure for coordination and engagement with philanthropy and philanthropic contacts and make recommendations about the future staffing, budget and resources assigned to the coordination of philanthropy and philanthropic relationships. You will also ensure that this includes a plan about the alignment of and future direction of the work of the GLA in relation to ESV and the wider work of Team London, ensuring we act as a convener, advisor and broker for the private sector, support and enhance existing initiatives and bring together corporates around relevant issues.

There will also be the requirement to create suitable working groups, including external stakeholders (e.g. Centre for London, London Funders, City Bridge Trust) and internal stakeholders (CSP, Mayor’s office, Deputy Mayors and policy teams in order to create a combined workplan and approach that will avoid duplication and draw on individual organisations strengths and knowledge.

You will need to be; a skilled communicator at a senior level, able to work with external partners and stakeholders, have a high level of internal policy awareness. Regarding technical competencies, we are looking for someone with experience and understanding of the context of philanthropy and civil society in London and the policy space occupied by the GLA, experience of working with philanthropic organisations, commercial organisations, advising on effective philanthropic and ESV engagement with civil society and the public sector across a wide variety of areas. We also want someone with a successful track record of developing new strategies and policy approaches and in taking work from a vision to implementation.

We welcome applications from those who would like a secondment to this role.

We are committed to being an inclusive employer and we are happy to consider flexible working arrangements. We would welcome applications from candidates who are seeking part time work as this role is open to job share.

In addition to a good salary package, we offer an attractive range of benefits including 30 days’ annual leave, interest free season ticket loan, interest free bicycle loan and a career average pension scheme.

To apply, please visit our website.

Application closing date: Sunday 25 August at 23:59 GMT.

Interviews will take place at: Wednesday 4 and Monday 9 September 2019.

London's diversity is its biggest asset and we strive to ensure our workforce reflects London's diversity at all levels. You will be able to demonstrate a clear commitment to promoting diversity, equality and inclusion. We welcome applications from everyone regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, faith or disability.
