Dementia Support Manager

Alzheimer's Society is the UK's leading dementia charity. We provide information and support, improve care, fund research, and create lasting change for people affected by dementia.

Position: Dementia Support Manager
Location: Dunstable (commutable from Milton Keynes, St Albans, Aylesbury and surrounding areas)
Contract type: Full time, Permanent
Hours: 35 per week
Salary: £22,132 actual per annum

Closing date: 01 August 2019
Interview date: Friday 9 August 2019 Luton Office

About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity to join our teams working in Luton and Bedfordshire supporting people living with dementia and their carers across the area. The Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Support Service involves dedicated members of staff providing one to one support, information and guidance to everyone affected by dementia including carers, family members and friends. Staff help people understand dementia, provide guidance on coping with living with dementia day to day and preparing for their futures. The service also delivers a range of dementia specific group and information programmes.

A substantial part of your role will involve managing an experienced and highly skilled team of Dementia Support Workers, Group Facilitators and volunteers. You will be responsible for their recruitment, development and performance management. You will need to be able to support, guide and advise them in their demanding roles, whilst ensuring we provide the highest standards of service.

As the Dementia Support Manager you will also maintain and manage a caseload of clients living with dementia or affected by dementia; providing support to help them maintain their independence, improve their sense of well-being, and putting them in more control of their lives. You will help raise public awareness about dementia and the way it affects families and individuals. You will also identify areas of need and gaps in support and service, working with other organisations to maximise the availability of local resources. You will proactively build a network of professional contacts to ensure our services are promoted widely and that referral pathways are effectively established.

About you:

To be successful in this role you will need to be a well-motivated, resourceful and creative person, with excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a busy service environment. You will be able to motivate and support your team to achieve consistently high standards of performance. You will be required to act as an ambassador for the Alzheimer’s Society understanding our strategy and translating this into the services we deliver.
You will always champion the rights of people affected by dementia and ensure everything we do is of benefit to them. You will have demonstrable experience of managing a team and you will be comfortable working collaboratively and liaising across departments and with partner organisations. Ideally you will possess an in depth understanding of the needs of people with dementia and their carers as well as qualifications at NVQ level 3 or above (or equivalent). Experience of working in the voluntary sector or a care setting is desirable.

Are you someone who can make things happen? Who knows how to get the best out of people? If this sounds like you we can offer you a stimulating and challenging career as part of our operations team.

Our employees work hard every day to make a true difference in people's lives. We are proud to support them with a range of benefits, recognition and many options for working agilely, all contributing to a strong work life balance. We also have various learning programmes to support you in your development and help you grow to realise your potential and shape a career with Alzheimer's Society.

Alzheimer’s Society embraces diversity, inclusion and accessibility for all of our people. We are committed to building a diverse organisation that represents the communities we serve and ensuring inclusion in everything we do.

You may have experience of the following: Support Manager, Support Team Leader, Dementia Support Manager, Support Worker, Senior Support Worker, Social Care, Dementia, Charity, Charities, Third Sector, Social Worker, Community Care, Not for Profit, Healthcare Assistant, Care Worker, Vulnerable People, Voluntary Sector, Care Assistant etc.
