Head of Trillion Trees

Maternity cover

£45,000 per annum
Living Planet Centre, Woking, Surrey GU21 4LL

Deforestation and forest degradation remain principle challenges for sustainable development. We are advocating for natural forest loss to have ended and major progress in forest landscape restoration by 2030 and are mobilising political, economic and social forces to achieve that aim. An important element in our strategy is our joint venture with BirdLife International and the Wildlife Conservation Society called Trillion Trees.

Trillion Trees is founded on a vision that by mid-century, through concerted collective action by all sectors of society, one trillion trees will have been re-grown, saved from loss and better protected around the world. We are now looking for a passionate conservationist and high-level project manager to head up the initiative within WWF and lead our contribution to this partnership as our Head of Trillion Trees to cover maternity leave.

You will oversee all aspects of Trillion Trees for WWF, setting strategic direction, managing priorities across multiple areas of activity and devising innovative approaches to promote engagement, attract support and unlock new funding for forest conservation. With other fundraising teams and utilising our global network you will help raise the profile of this important programme and build relationships with prospective funding organisations or individuals. Ensuring you are up to date on international developments on forest policy and related climate initiatives that may present opportunities, you will seek out new collaborations to bring skills, expertise and resources to the programme as needed.

Representing WWF within the partnership, you will work with experts from WCS and Birdlife International to drive implementation of the shared strategy. Striving to close the gap between commitments to protect and restore forests and the reality on the ground, you will connect ambitious initiatives to forward-thinking funders and investors to create partnerships that deliver for forests around the world.  You will inspire others to work towards our vision through communication, research and demonstration.

To play your part in saving our forests you must have an excellent understanding of global forest conservation and management issues coupled with the capability to manage programmes and budgets. You will also have experience in leveraging public and private finance for conservation programmes.

An excellent communicator and influence, you will excel at building internal and external relationships and partnerships. Used to operating in an international environment and with a sensitivity to cultural differences. You will be enthusiastic about working in a network and in a matrix fashion.

Most importantly, you are a team player adept at overcoming obstacles, staying calm under pressure and can demonstrate a commitment to the natural world and WWF’s core mission and values.

At WWF-UK we are committed to creating an inclusive working environment, where diversity is valued and there is equality of opportunity. We therefore welcome applications from all sections of the community and we offer a range of benefits to encourage a work life balance.

Our world needs you like never before. We are the first generation to know we are destroying the world and we could be the last that can do anything about it. We’re looking for people who are passionate about making it politically, socially and economically unacceptable to destroy our planet’s natural resources. We need you to join us in the fight for our world.

Company

Best known as the world’s leading conservation body, we’ve seen first-hand how wildlife, the environment and human activity are all interlinked.

That’s why our passion for safeguarding the natural world has to be backed up by other environmental action – tackling the global threat of climate change (through our big global campaigns like Earth Hour) and helping people to change the way they live to ease pressure on natural resources.

WWF is at the heart of global activities in all these areas. We have teams of highly skilled professionals working with governments, businesses and communities here in the UK and around the world.
