Job Details
The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. We provide, on call, a 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service around the UK and Ireland, and a seasonal lifeguard service. With our lifeboats, lifeguards, safety advice and flood rescue, we are committed to saving lives. An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the RNLI’s Philanthropy Team with the responsibility for inspiring high net worth individuals and senior volunteers to support the work of RNLI. We are a geographically dispersed team with this role looking after the Midlands and North of England. Therefore, we are ideally looking to recruit a candidate based in this area.
Your primary purpose will be to maximise fundraising opportunities from philanthropists in this region in order to contribute to the Philanthropy Team’s growth targets. Working closely with colleagues throughout the RNLI, you will have responsibility for identifying new prospects and senior volunteers, as well as stewarding a portfolio of existing donors.
You will be an excellent networker, capable of building and maintaining strong personal relationships with a wide range of individuals, both externally and internally. You will already have a proven track record in a fundraising or sales environment, and highly advantageous would be a solid understanding of philanthropic giving, engaging with high net worth individuals and experience of ‘making the ask’. Apart from a keen interest in the cause, you will also ideally have an ability to work in isolation as well as part of a geographically dispersed team, and have the drive and tenacity to meet challenging financial and performance targets.
Location of this role is flexible within the Midlands or North England, but you will be required to travel extensively within the region to meet key stakeholders, and occasionally to Poole Support Centre for meetings. A willingness to travel (with some overnight stays and occasional evening/weekend work) is therefore essential, as is a full driving license. A vehicle will be made available to carry out your duties.

Closing date: 28 July 2019.
Interview date: 8 August 2019.

The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. Powered primarily by kind donations, our search and rescue service has been saving lives for nearly 200 years. Here you can find out more about who we are, what we do and how with your support, we can move closer to a world where no one drowns.
Our Values
Our work is based on and driven by our values. Our volunteers and staff strive for excellence and are:
Trustworthy: To hold the trust of the public, our volunteers, supporters, partners and staff
Courageous: To have the courage to take on the most demanding challenges
Selfless: To put the needs of others first
Dependable: To be reliable, consistent and authentic
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
Focusing on equality, diversity and inclusion is not just the right thing to do, it is essential to the sustainability of the RNLI and our ability to deliver our organisational goal.
We know that it takes a wide range of diverse minds, cultures and experiences to effectively connect with different audiences and communities, and that is why we want to attract talent from diverse backgrounds, to make sure we have the right people to keep the RNLI relevant, both now and in the future.
Creating an environment where people feel comfortable and valued, makes them want to volunteer or come to work and give their best because people perform better when they can be themselves. So, we want people to feel proud of their uniqueness and comfortable to celebrate their differences and express themselves.
Crucially, we do not tolerate disrespectful behaviour towards each other, supporters or members of the public.
