Key Responsibilities
As the public ‘face’ of Change of Scene (CoS), the person appointed will:
- advocate and promote the work of CoS with all its many audiences, including staff (employed and volunteers), Board members, fund-raisers, public and charity sector representatives, etc.
- establish and consistently reinforce through their personal actions, the ‘moral compass’ of CoS, ensuring that the charity’s vision remains at the heart of every action and decision of the organisation.
- protect and enhance the long-term financial, operational stability and viability of CoS.
- prepare and gain Board approval to the annual operating plan and longer-term strategic plans, as and when required.
- oversee effective fund-raising and implementation in support of achievement of the annual operating and longer-term strategic plans.
- assist in the continued growth and development of the contribution made by the Friends of CoS to the long-term future success of the organisation.
- oversee and ensure effective operational and day-to-day management of CoS.
- support and advise the Board on all matters relevant to the effective discharge of their fiduciary duties and responsibilities as trustees of CoS, including the formulation and presentation of policies and planning recommendations.
Essential Requirements
The CEO must:
- demonstrably ‘buy-in’ to the vision of CoS, in all they say and do.
- at all times uphold the reputation and good-standing of CoS.
- relate and be empathetic to the needs and challenges of ‘hard-to-reach’ children and young people.
- inspire confidence and engagement from others in both the immediate and longer-term prospects of CoS.
- be a highly effective networker with all the organisation’s various audiences, both internal and external.
- demonstrate they understand and have experience of successfully growing and developing organisations, possibly (though not necessarily) in the charity, education and / or health and social care sectors.
- be self-motivated, organised, highly resilient and have the ability to seize opportunities.
- have experience in the preparation and implementation of business and operational plans which have demonstrably contributed to the effective running of the organisation, both in the immediate and longer-term.
- be an effective manager of people, able to inspire and gain the respect of employed and volunteer staff alike and of the Board.
- possess understanding of the safe-guarding issues associated with working with vulnerable children and animals.
- demonstrably be an effective and inspiring public speaker.
Desirable Requirements
It would be helpful, though it is not essential, that the CEO:
- has senior level experience and background of multi-agency working, particularly in the charity, education and / or health and social care sectors.
- in the absence of such background, demonstrates an appreciation of the operating values underpinning these sectors and displays a willingness to develop a detailed understanding thereof, over time.
- has no concerns working with animals.
