Activities Coordinator (Sport/Physical Activity) 

Founded in 1984, our client is a pioneering registered charity located in Tower Hamlets. They support families, young people and adults of all ages to learn new skills, improve their health and wellbeing, find employment and develop the confidence to achieve their goals and transform their lives. 

Position: Sport & Physical Activity Coordinator 
Location: London E3 3BT 
Job type: Full Time, Fixed Term Contract until Mid-August 2020 
Hours: 35 hours per week, occasional evening and weekend work 
Salary: £22,200 to £27,000 per annum

About the role: 

The role of the Sport & Physical Activity Coordinator is wide-ranging and includes the following: 

- Undertake assessments with consideration to individual goals and medical conditions and support participants to develop personalised action plans. 
- Act as the main point of contact for participants on the Active Health programme including initial point of contact for referrals and ongoing support during the 12-week programme and beyond. 
- Recruit and support qualified, experienced and DBS cleared physical activity and sports coaches who will deliver agreed sessions. 
- Co-ordinate and oversee weekly group sessions in line with our client and community venue protocols, health and safety and quality assurance processes. 
- Develop and deliver high quality evidence based physical activity and health and wellbeing information. 
- Implement effective strategies to support participants’ behaviour change in relation to sport, physical activity and healthy lifestyles. 
- Provide clients with information and opportunities to support their continued access to physical activity and sports long-term. 
- Recognise people’s needs for different methods of communication and learning and respond accordingly. 
- Plan, coordinate and deliver community awareness sessions to promote the Centre’s sport and physical activity programmes locally. 
- Support the administrative function of the project as required. 
- Support the development of an online platform to support participants. 
- Recruit and Induct volunteers, monitor volunteer retention and implement strategies to improve it if required. 
- Work within the Centre’s Investors in Volunteers framework to support the delivery of volunteering to a high standard. 
- Work closely with other programmes and projects to share knowledge and integrate approaches to sport and physical activity. 
- Actively contribute to team meetings, away days and development of the Sport and Physical activity service. 
- In liaison with your line manager, actively contribute to the strategic planning and development of the service. 
- Participate in internal and external meetings as agreed with your line manager. 

About you: 

- BSc (Hons) Sport Science or experience of coordinating and delivering community based sport, physical activity and healthy lifestyle services. 
- Exercise Referral Qualification. 
- Experience working with clients living with a mental health condition and other health conditions. 
- Good understanding and implementation of behaviour change concepts and principles. 
- Good understanding of the issues affecting residents who live a sedentary lifestyle. 
- Understanding of the wider social determinants of health, poverty and discrimination issues that affect members of the local community. 
- Experience of contributing to monitoring and reporting on services. 
- Ability to relate to people from different backgrounds and with a range of support needs including people with mental health and long-term health conditions. 
- High level of computer literacy including applied knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook). 
- Ability to work some evening and / or weekends to meet the needs of the programme. 
- Experience of developing personalised plans with clients (desirable) 
- Experience of using co-production in service delivery (desirable) 
- Familiarity with the use of online database tracking systems (desirable) 
- Experience of supporting volunteers (desirable) 
- Basic First Aid qualification (desirable)
