Contract: Fixed term contract, ending 2021 (with view to extend past this date, subject to contractual arrangements agreed with Sightsavers and ESPEN and location being confirmed during/ towards the end of the fixed term contract period, which could include being located in Brazzaville.  This will be discussed further at interview stage.)

Accelerating the Sustainable Control and Elimination of Neglected Tropical Diseases (ASCEND) is a high profile, high value, DFID-funded contract, which will make a significant contribution to the control and elimination of up to five neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) across 13 countries. Sightsavers is the lead supplier, working directly with a consortium of partners including Accenture, Schistosomiasis Control Initiative at Imperial College, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, Mott MacDonald, WaterAid, M&C Saatchi World Services and other downstream partners.

As the Knowledge Manager you will support the Team Lead Knowledge Innovation and Learning Unit to foster an enabling environment within the ASCEND programme. This will cover 13 countries in West and Central Africa and will be delivered according to the donor specific contract terms and conditions. Travel for a minimum of 8 weeks a year is required for this post, as is work in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo in the future to work in close collaboration with the Expanded Special Project for Elimination of Neglected Tropical Diseases (ESPEN)[1].  

Your duties as the Knowledge Manager will be to design, implement and oversee ASCEND’s knowledge management and learning components and to develop a knowledge framework for ASCEND. You will systemically capture programme level information and evidence generated through ASCEND.

The role will support headquarters and in-country staff to implement tools, approaches and best practises, promote knowledge sharing in the sector, and to support the development of informal knowledge products (including blogposts, newsletters, learning briefs, reports and other documentation), focusing on priority areas - health systems strengthening, WASH and behaviour change communication, gender equity and the leave no one behind agenda.

As the ideal candidate, you will be educated to Masters level or equivalent in a relevant discipline, have extensive experience and/or qualifications in knowledge management/project management, and have a background in capturing good practice and disseminating learning. You will also have an understanding of a partnership approach to programme implementation, prior experience in developing countries, and proficiency in written and verbal English is desirable.
