Policy Officer 

Our client is the independent body that regulates party and election finance, sets standards for well-run elections and encourages people to register to vote. 

Position: Policy Advisor 
Location: Commission office in London, Cardiff, Edinburgh or Belfast, or home workers 
Job type: Full Time, Permanent 
Salary: £28,589 to £31,146 depending on location

About the role: 

You will provide a flexible policy analysis and development resource which supports projects required to develop expert policy advice by the Commission on electoral administration or political finance issues. 

You will work closely with all other members of the Policy Team and will be expected to work flexibly across a range of policy areas. You will also work closely with operational teams in the Electoral Administration and Guidance and Political Finance and Regulation departments and colleagues in devolved and English regional offices, to ensure that operational experience is reflected in the development of the Commission’s policy positions. 

Work with the  press and public affairs teams where appropriate and as directed, to support effective communication of the detailed policy positions, and with the Research and Evaluation team to ensure the  policies and recommendations are informed by robust evidence. 

Maintain constructive working relationships with relevant government officials, particularly those responsible for the development and management of policy relating to electoral administration and political finance regulation. The post-holder may also be required to identify and develop constructive relationships with other external partners which could include local authority officers, political party officials and staff from other regulators, police forces and enforcement agencies. 

About You; 

- Degree level education or equivalent relevant experience 
- Experience of policy development and influencing decision-makers, ideally in a diverse and fast-moving policy environment 
- Experience of problem solving with the ability to interpret complex legislation and to translate it for others 
- Experience of working with government policy and legislative processes 
- Familiarity with UK political systems and structures, including devolution within the UK 
- Good level of IT skills including MS Excel, Word, Project, databases and Outlook
