Senior Trust Foundations and National Lottery Lead Fundraiser

£40,000-£45,000 + contributory pension, excellent holidays and other benefits

Based Birmingham

At the Canal & River Trust, we believe life’s better by water, and that the waterways we take care of have an important contribution to make to the health and wellbeing of local communities and economies. Do you want to play a part in transforming our canals and rivers into spaces where local people choose to spend time and feel better? We’re looking for an experienced and innovative fundraiser who can help us attract the funding we need to continue bringing wellbeing benefits to millions.

About the role

This role is all about building long-term relationships – by carrying out donor research, by positioning the Trust as a reliable delivery partner, and by proving to funders that our causes and objectives are aligned with their own. You’ll focus on generating voluntary income from charitable and corporate trusts and foundations while also maintaining long-term strategic partnerships with the various UK National Lottery distributors. Through your relationships, you will be able to grow and diversify income generation, partly by developing propositions and products that donors recognise will make a difference. You’ll also be responsible for project reporting and for policy and regulatory compliance.

About you

With significant experience of this kind of fundraising already under your belt, you’ll know exactly how to build trust with potential funders and donors and convince them that our desired outcomes are aligned with their own. The role involves developing strong working relationships across the Trust as well as with external partners, so you must have excellent networking, influencing and negotiating skills. You also need to be a proven leader, who has experience of working with high-level volunteer fundraisers and who can champion fundraising across the Trust. Other key qualities we’re looking for include strong commercial judgement, strategic vision and some real entrepreneurial flair.

About us
We’re the charity who look after and bring to life 2,000 miles of canals and rivers. Our waterways contribute to the health and wellbeing of local communities and economies, creating attractive and connected places to live, work, volunteer and spend leisure time. These historic, natural and cultural assets form part of the strategic and local green-blue infrastructure network, linking urban and rural communities as well as habitats. Our waterways are on the doorstep of 8 million people and reach some of the most deprived communities within the UK. By caring for our waterways and promoting their use we believe we can improve the wellbeing of our nation.  Come and be part of it.

Company

No other charity brings so much free, open, and accessible blue and green space to the doorstep of so many. With your support, we can continue our work.

We are one of the UK’s biggest charities and we care for 2,000 miles of canals, rivers, docks and reservoirs because we believe life is better by water.

Along with our waterways we also manage museums, archives and the country’s third largest collection of historic buildings. These all enable us to offer wellbeing opportunities to millions of people each year.

Supporting this varied community who live, work and play on our canals means that we need an incredibly varied workforce. From engineers to ecologists, museum attendants to marketers, hundreds of people work at the Trust, all striving to make sure life is always better by the water.
