Senior Communications Officer 

Our client is the UK’s largest provider of specialist services for victims of all forms of gender-based violence (domestic, sexual, so called ‘honour’ violence, trafficking, prostitution, forced marriage, stalking and FGM). Every day they support over 6,600 women and children in their national network of services. These include Independent Domestic, Sexual and Gender-based Violence Advocacy services (IDVAs / ISVAs and IGVAs), community outreach, specialist refuge accommodation, sanctuary services and culturally-specific services and the Freephone 24 Hour National Domestic Violence Helpline (run in partnership between our client and another charity). They advise Government and lobby hard to keep violence against women and girls high on the public agenda. They run award-winning prevention and public education campaigns, managing a busy press office and website, and they are an accredited training provider. They give a voice to the voiceless.

About the role: 

ur client’s small communications team covers a wide-ranging remit of work spanning reactive and proactive national and regional press, integrated campaigns, internal communications, the website, social media, newsletters and service literature. This is a great chance to join this busy team in a new role and make a real impact in reaching out to women and children who experience abuse and bringing about change to end violence against women and girls. 

They are looking for an experienced Senior Communications Officer (Press) with excellent writing skills, news judgement and story-telling aptitude. Overseeing a busy press office function, this post will respond to reactive requests, spot tactical opportunities, whilst developing and rolling out a proactive programme of work across national and regional media. 

Responsibilities: 

The post-holder will work with a wide variety of media to broaden our client’s exposure both nationally and regionally, as well as increase the profile of local services. The role will ensure the voices of survivors are at the heart of all their communications work and that the organisation is positioned as a long-standing expert and the country’s largest single provider of services in the VAWG field. 

They work in an exciting and fast-paced environment, collaborating closely with the Policy, Fundraising and Operations teams to identify stories, case studies and sector trends, and develop these into media pitches and campaigns. 

About you: 

The successful applicant will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience working within communications and undertaking high-profile media relations with proven results. You will have the ability to strategically prioritise requests and manage a complex workload with competing demands. The role will involve the production of content for newsletters, social media and the website, ideally including audio-visual materials and graphics. 

This is a wide and varied role. No two days are the same with our client, but the work of the communications team is interesting and rewarding.
