Job Details

About us

Crisis is the national charity for homeless people. We know that homelessness is not inevitable. We know that together we can end it.

The media team is at the heart of Crisis’ external affairs division, telling the stories of people who’ve experienced homelessness, publicising high profile campaigns that help to change laws and perceptions, and raising money for our vital services.

About the role

As Crisis’ Senior Media Officer, you will lead on high-profile media activity to support our work across the UK, delivering dynamic proactive and reactive work that helps bring our work to life, builds meaningful engagement with our audiences and stakeholders, and most importantly, helps convince our audiences that homelessness can and must be ended. Your role will be highly creative and varied, from developing hard-hitting media strategies to jumping on reactive opportunities to ensure our voice is heard in the relevant debates. You will be part of a dynamic media team, and work with colleagues across our organisation, including from our services, fundraising, campaigns, research, marketing, and policy teams – to make sure our work is authoritative, effective, and compelling.

Knowledge/Skills and Experience:

About you

As Senior Media Officer, you will be proactive, creative, and solutions-focussed, acting as a leader within the team, and an expert to our colleagues across the organisation. Although you will have the full support of your managers, you will be confident working independently and deputizing for the media manager where necessary.

You will bring experience of developing and implementing high-profile media campaigns with demonstrable results. You will have a firm grip on how the media landscape is changing, particularly understanding the importance of digital and how to make our coverage work across a multitude of platforms.

You will bring excellent communication skills, with the ability to easily grasp complex issues and convey these in a compelling way to different audiences.

You will have experience of working directly with senior stakeholders, developing robust media strategies, coming up with creative concepts for campaigns that don’t immediately lend themselves to media coverage, and advising colleagues on what works for media and what doesn’t.

You will also have experience in telling the stories of people who are, or have been, in vulnerable situations, sensitively and with the utmost respect for their safety and wellbeing.

Benefits

As a member of the team you will have access to a wide range of employee benefits including:

  • Interest free loans to purchase a train season ticket or a bike or for a deposit to secure a tenancy
  • Mandatory pension scheme, with an employer contribution of 8%
  • 25 days’ annual leave which increases with service to 28 days

Alongside our excellent staff benefits, we will support your ongoing development to build your skills, experience and career.
