Company

Who are we?

Cheshire Down’s Syndrome Support Group (CDSSG) is a small local charity Supporting families and children with Down’s Syndrome (DS). The charity was established in 2007.  It is entirely self-funded and reliant on support from families and volunteers.

Our three aims:

Educate

Parents, carers and teachers in best practice techniques to help develop children with Downs’s syndrome to reach their maximum potential.

Communicate

Raise awareness and understanding in the Cheshire community about Down’s syndrome.

Support

Parents, carers and siblings where someone in the family has Down’s syndrome.  To achieve these aims we use our funding to offer Makaton Sign Language training, run educational conferences, development sessions and training for school as well as organising Family Fun events where everyone can get involved!

How We Help

Many new parents leave hospital with little or no information about their child’s diagnosis and this can be frightening experience and very emotional time. CDSSG are continuing to build stronger links with hospitals to provide support for midwives and new parents. Every family’s experiences are different and we work with parents, carers and schools to provide emotional support, practical training and advice to meet their needs.

With continued support, children with Down’s syndrome will make good progress and achieve things that were thought impossible in the past. They will have jobs, get married, run park runs, achieve qualifications and set and achieve their own personal ambition…just like everyone else!
