Job Details

Our client is a leading London based homeless charity who pride themselves in supporting people who have experienced homelessness. They work with their service users to overcome obstacles hindering them from leading independent lives. They are currently looking for a Refugee Caseworker to support refugees accessing basic services in the community. This is a temporary assignment, starting ASAP until September 2019.

As a Refugee Caseworker, you will work in a service that supports people from refugee communities in West London who are experiencing difficulties in accessing the services, support, and opportunities required to meet their immediate needs. You will support a caseload, including recently granted refugees and Asylum seekers, who are either homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. In this role, you will provide a holistic time-limited casework and support service, and with the support of the manager, supervise and coach volunteers. You will work collaboratively with service users to develop goals, plans, and strategies to overcome or avoid homelessness and destitution, and to improve skills and life chances. You will be responsible for a caseload of service users, running 1:1 advice and casework sessions, with some scope for designing and facilitating group workshops to meet service users' needs, and contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of the project.

To be successful in this role, you will have experience of caseload, some experience of advocating for refugees and other vulnerable migrants is preferred, as is a good working knowledge of accessing UK mainstream services, including accommodation, health services, welfare benefits and other community services. You will be client focused and determined to achieve positive outcomes for clients, and be able to establish effective working relationships with a diverse range of people. An ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a relevant community language (such as Arabic, Amharic, Tigrinya or Somali) would be an asset, but is not a requirement. The successful candidate will be required to work flexibly, across several locations, and contribute to any aspect of the project's work.

To be considered, you must be available immediately and be in possession of a fully enhanced DBS check that is registered to the online update service.
