The Role

The Health Foundation is recruiting for an interim 'Research Manager - Improvement' (maternity cover). The role is to contribute to the delivery of the Foundation's strategy, working with staff from across the Foundation, (primarily the Improvement Directorate) to lead the scoping and commissioning of research calls and commissioned studies. The research team also provides expert support to the whole organisation and other external agencies to understand and develop key research questions and support the delivery of our strategic priorities.

The Research Manager is the key contact point for a range of internal and external stakeholders, including research teams, other funders and charities, national thought leaders and policymakers. They provide strategic leadership to a range of research partnerships, and also act as the contract manager for commissioned studies.

 

The Person

Key requirements include:

- Knowledge and understanding of research theory and methods, with strong research analysis skills.

- Knowledge of evaluation methods and practice, including evaluation of complex interventions.

- Experience in commissioning and/or managing research activities that are practice and policy-relevant.

- Experience of working in qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-method health services research.

- Experience of line management, and personal development of staff

- Achieving Impact - Excellent and demonstrable project management and planning skills across multiple projects and across more than one portfolio area

- Experience of programme management with knowledge and/or a formal qualification in PRINCE2 or AGILE

- Knowledge of current issues in health care and social care improvement and / or issues pertaining to the health and social care system in the UK (Desirable)

- Experience of research tools and approaches, such as literature searching, and software for data analysis (Desirable)
