Are you a commercially aware individual with experience of developing and maintaining relationships with external partners and commissioners? Then join Shelter as a Business Development Manager and you could soon be playing a big part in helping us further develop our services.

A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change — with individuals, in communities, across society – and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.

Part of our Services Division, the Business Development team maintains and grows Shelter services by securing income, including statutory funded contracts, through competitive tendering. We also develop new, innovative and creative products and services that better meet the needs of our clients. Understanding the markets that Shelter operates in, researching new markets to create a pipeline of opportunities for services and developing partnerships with organisations that share our values – all are aspects of our work.

About the Role

Join us, and you’ll be responsible for managing a variety of development projects from conception right through to implementation. We’ll also rely on you to draw on our collective expertise and range of information sources to write propositions and complete tender documents for service delivery opportunities in collaboration with operational managers. Developing relationships with external contacts with the aim of delivering the service development benefits associated with early insight into market development and opportunities for partnerships will be important too. And, when it comes to making sure all opportunities identified for service growth or continuation are aligned with the objectives of our services strategic plan and overall strategy, again we'll count on you to deliver.

About you

Used to developing services to meet changing needs and priorities, you also have proven successful experience of writing development and business plans. What's more, your track record in procurement and commissioning includes negotiating contracts, service level agreements and grants. Knowledge of project management and/or proposal management tools and techniques is important too, as is a proactive, results-driven approach. Happy to challenge the status quo and introduce new ideas/methods when appropriate, you enjoy working collaboratively for the good of the business and are great at building relationships at all levels.

We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave, enhanced family friendly policies, childcare vouchers, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.

Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
