The Organisation:   

Prospectus is delighted to be supporting an independent foundation specialising in parliamentary strengthening and political party development to recruit a Finance Director to be based at their office in London. They achieve this through supporting the development of parliaments, political parties and civil society organisations and have supported transitions to democracy in central and Eastern Europe; strengthened multi party democracies in Africa and also extended its work to the Middle East, North Africa and Asia over the last 10 years.    


The Role:   

Leading a team of 7, the Finance Director is responsible for the operational finance function and for providing professional advice on short-to-medium term finances and its long-term sustainability to the Chief Executive (who is also the Accounting Officer), the Executive Management Team, and the Board of Governors consistent with their status, mission and values.  The Finance Director ensures that the financial resources are spent with regularity and propriety as required by HM Treasury financial management guidance, and that they complies with relevant statutory provisions.   

The Finance Director will attend meetings of the Board and one Board sub-committee, namely the Audit and Risk Assurance Committee, and be a member of the Executive Management Team.   


The Person:    

To be successful in this role you will need to be a qualified Accountant with a proven track record of leading a finance operation and team within an international organisation (experience of working with grant and contract funding from the UK Government and EU would be desirable).  You will need strong control and accounting technical skills, experience of managing internal and external auditors and a sound knowledge and understanding of accounting principles, as well as experience of supporting change in a small organisation.    

As a person you will also need to have strong communication and influencing skills and be able to work at all levels with gravitas, tact and diplomacy; be a strategic thinker and able to be creative and innovative when considering strategic challenges; and as a team leader you should enjoy coaching and mentoring people to ensure the delivery of team wide results.
