Join Build It International in a new Director position taking the lead on Development and Performance

The Organisation:

Build It International is a development NGO that has pioneered a simple and highly effective model that is enabling hundreds of unemployed young people in Zambia to learn essential building skills, whilst building vital schools and clinics that are benefitting thousands of children from dozens of communities. We directly manage our training programme and construction projects, and work in close collaboration with many other organisations. We enjoy excellent links to employers, professional bodies and the wider donor/NGO sector and this is opening up new opportunities to expand our work. Since our launch in 2006 we have focused on Zambia where we have established a reputation for high quality work and as a key player in the building/training sector. We aim to steadily grow over the coming years, extending our reach in Zambia as our flagship Centre for Excellence training centre becomes fully established. We will become increasingly involved in policy and advocacy work and intend to expand our programme beyond Zambia by 2021.

The Role:

This is a new senior position reflecting the growth and ambition of the charity. The position will deputise for and report to the CEO, taking the lead on a number of core functions to ensure continued growth and performance improvement. Programme resourcing (development) lies at the heart of this position and includes the line management of senior fundraisers as you take overall responsibility for income. You will also oversee our strategy implementation plan and lead on Impact monitoring. We anticipate increasing responsibility as the role establishes itself over the next few years.

The Person:

The right person for this role will be a senior manager ideally with overseas development experience and a strong commitment to our values: empowerment, excellence, collaboration and courage. Committed to good practice in development projects with demonstrable experience setting and implementing strategies and plans. An inspiring leader and manager, you will have sound relationship based fundraising/income generation experience and the ability to foster new partnerships. You will also enjoy being based in beautiful Shropshire with regular UK travel and up to 6 weeks abroad each year.
